man my workday would be so boring without GMG, my only hope would be Demuro picks up the slack and starts producing 3-4 videos a day

Does anyone actually “own” Oppo? I actually don’t know.

It’s my understanding that Oppo was started by and technically belongs to member Porsche9146. It used to be part of Jalopnik back in the day, but they kicked us out because we were making them look bad and we lived for a while at Gawker then found a long-term lease with Kinja. When we blatantly violate copyright laws and post nudes, Jalopnik doesn’t want it to be traced back to them.

Is that user still active? God forbid he forgot his burner passcode.
I wonder if there is a way to migrate the site. I know that AV club left and came back to Kinja.

I have no idea. Others are around here who know more.
Back when Gawker was going under, there was talk of moving somewhere else, Google +, whatever. I think there is another group out there using the Oppositelock name, but it is “unofficial.” It will be hard to recreate this experience elsewhere, and continue new members.

We had some kind of close connection back in the day. I remember back before they cut us loose, although we’re still a source of some of their content (I’m not sure how to explain our relationship).
Kinja is just the platform that Gawker used for all their sites. When Gawker sold everything, we just followed because they either own or have some strong connection with Kinja.
It would be interesting to say the least if nobody was willing to buy the assets if they decide to sell it off again.

Yes, I’ve been here since the pre-Kinja days. All they really did was to change the URL so we wouldn’t embarrass anybody.

I remember that now. We used to be oppositelock.jalopnik.com...

Yup. That was also back in the day when NSFW posts were allowed on Oppo, and a google search for Oppositelock would always come up with nekkid ladies as the first result and Jalopnik in the URL. Not good.
